Song Question: Looking for a song about a boy who found his father's gun & carried it to school

I remember hearing a song on adult contemporary radio stations in the late 80's / early 90's.

It's about a little boy who found his father's gun, carried it to school and another little boy accidentally got shot and killed with it on the playground.

I cannot remember any of the lyrics to search for it, but i do know that it was a very sad song and that a man sang it.

If anyone can help, i'd appreciate it!
