90's? Grunge rock song, male singer, slow, relaxed love song

This is driving me crazy, I used to love this song and cannot remember title or lyrics. It's on the tip of tongue!!

It's an older song maybe 90's when grunge was big. It's a single male singer (but may be a part of a band) he sings slowly, with a deep, kind of gruff voice, (think glycerine by bush) but then during one of the chorus/bridge part his voice breaks and is really soft and a little higher in octave..

And I think there's some stuff about a dark room, or broken window, or maybe staring at the walls but then again I can't remember so I could just be remembering wrong.

I think he's singing about a girl he wants (who maybe doesn't want him back or is too good for him) or how he feels empty, or lonely etc

Any suggestions?????
