a very distinctive song is lost

by john c

I'm looking for a song that was played on top-40 stations in America in the mid-90s. It was unusual because it had a distinctive middle-eastern sound to it with short sitar swells and such. The singer sounded like a white guy. It sounded like the lyrics were about his relationship, or the reasons why he is breaking up or something. It was on heavy rotation for a few weeks, I don't know if it charted or not. Don't know the title or artist or album, or even exact year. Couldn't tell you if they had a video. But if you had heard it, you would think my description was dead-on.
