An early 80s pop rock song with a male singer

by Mike Johnston
(Green Pond, Alabama )

The fellow that sings it has a voice like the lead singer of dire straits. It has plenty of guitar and it is a smoothe easy going song. I forget a lot of the words, but part of the chorus is: "how cool can you be with a broken heart" and toward the end of the song he tells the band to hurry up because they are about to run out of record. I heard it in America, but I don't know what nationality it is. Seems American though.
