Early 60's anti war song

by Jerry
(Kansas City)

The song setting was WWI, a soldier has just been killed and is experience what we would call a Near Death Experience (I suppose). I heard it around 1963, was in a juke box. Part of the lyric was, as I recall, " ..We were on a spaceship to the sun ..."
It was a male voice, higher pitched, kind of like Neil Young (but I don't know if NY was even producing back then). I can be contacted at [email protected]
