Slower 80s song with Doot do part in the chorus

by ben

i believe the song is from the 80s, slower song with a softer male voice (similar to pet shop boys or Howard jones but not them). The song is telling a story and I believe has a lyric where someone "stopped by to say hello" and something about "on ___ street." At the end of each verse the singer says "Doot do, do doot doot do doo, doot do, do doot doot do doo."

It has some electronic-ish low tones in the background, pretty mellow song. I'm thinking mid to late 80s but I can't be absolutely certain. Remembering it being pretty new wave.

I know this is vague, but your help is appreciated!

At first I thought Main street by Bob Seger but there is not do doot doo in that one so, I thought of Suzanna Vega's Tom's Diner; Lots of doot doo in that one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-26hsZqwveA
