Song Question:
What is the R&B
(possibly hip hop) song
with references to California?
by Amber
(California)
It came out somewhere between (or perhaps shortly before) the years 2002-2004.
It played on a Stanislaus (California) radio station fairly often (Hot 104.7 - back then it was called "Hot 105") if that helps anyone.
The song was sung by a male.
It was very smooth feeling, the vibe of the song was extremely laid-back and "cool," in a sense - but at the same time, I remember I wondered if it was actually considered hip hop because the beat sounded more like hip hop to me than R&B (however I do not think there was any rapping - if there was, it couldn't have been more than a single verse).
The only bits of lyrics I can remember were that the song made references to California, low-riding, "leaning" or "laying" back or something like that (I believe he was referring to doing so in the car) and talked about cruising around in California, basically.
There was more to the song than that, I think, but that's all that I remember.
I assumed it was called "California Funk" for unknown reasons (I don't know if that phrase was said in the song or something) but when I heard it on the radio back then I got it in my head somehow that it was called "California Funk."
However, I later discovered it was called something else, but I *think* California was in the name, or at least "Cali." When I found it online back then, the name had parentheses, and it was one of those songs where it was like "Title One (Title Extension)". << (That was an example of what I mean.)
It was one of my favorite songs that I lost a long time ago when both my computer broke and I lost my CD, but I can't remember the name of it and can't find it anywhere; if anyone knows what it is (or think you might know at least something about it), I would so appreciate it!
