70's Song- Sung by a man who sounds like a cross between Long John Baldry and Wolfman Jack

by Ely Smith
(Texarkana, Texas, USA)

Song about a man who is a musician, he overhears people talking about some song...(I think) it turns out that it was his song.

He asks "what was going on" and the kid replies, "wake up old man, it's just a little funky rock and roll". Then he says, "so I put on my shoes and went down to the record shop". Not sure of the next lyrics but it includes, "everybody was doing the bop".

It's an upbeat, kinda cheesy song, but it has been stuck in my head for years and I don't know the name or the artist. Please help.
